OB-OR.

pwede ko ba i-kwento ang first experience ko sa inyooo? lemme hear you say wohow! :)) (concert?) o wag ka! sa operating room lang 'to! yes, my first time in the ob-or. this happened last summer, when most of the students of other colleges in our university were enjoying their vacation, we were busy doing case analysis, ncp's (nursing care plans), drug studies and attending our duties. o saan ka pa?! nursing students are really deprived of rest days and vacation. given na 'yan! kanya-kanya na lang gawa ng paraan. alam yan ng nursing students, tanungin mo 'yung mga yan... malamang 9 out of 10, kapag sembreak at summer e naiinggit sa ibang courses. haha. consuelo na lang kung ang duty mo matapat ng monday or friday, kasi kadalasan inuusad jan 'yung mga holidays -- "ano ba'y holiday?" itanong mo, pag wala nang maisagot asahan mo bulacan day 'yun. abangan mo, dalawa hanggang tatlong beses lalabas sa isang taon yan. dahil jan, ang laki na nang itinatanda ng bulacan! :D (di ko na alam kung paano ibabalik ule sa topic to.) anyway, adi nasa area na kame... in-orient kame ng c.i. with the facilities, staff and especially sa surgical instruments. though, nakita ko na yung mga instruments na 'yon before, iba talaga pag pinagsama-sama mo...vertigo attack! ang dating alam mong mayo na pinapalaman at salad dressing lang, e gunting pala at table; yung mosquito ginawang clamp; mabaluktot lang 'yung dulo ng clamp or scissors maiiba na ang tawag. ganun ka-gulo. so after the orientation, we waited in the recovery room hoping that there'd be a patient scheduled for a caesarean section that day. i told my groupmates that i wanted to go first. di ko rin alam kung san ako kumuha ng lakas ng loob nun, siguro dahil wala rin namang gustong mauna at gusto ko din makumpleto (well, not really.) mapunan yung cases ko. so after hours of waiting, ayun may patient na daw. "sino sa inyo mauuna?" the c.i asked. "ma'am, ako po." i answered hoping that i wasn't pale. i wasn't pale! i wasn't pale! haha. so i prepared the mayo table, scrubbed my hands, wore the gown, put on the gloves. (kung may hindi ako nabanggit, wag ka mag-alala... kumpleto suot ko.) just imagine that i was doing all of that stuff with my c.i beside me. much the same as watching a porno but... with your parents beside you. get it? jk. "ma'am, permission to collapse!" then i shouted, "where's my patient!?" no. i'm just kidding. i have no time to crack even a single joke at that time. the operation started.
sugeon: "knife."
c.i: "o, knife daw."
alam mo yung , sa utos pa lang ng doktora kakabahan ka na tas gagatungan pa ng isa. "ma'am, teka lang. mahina'y kalaban!" kung pede ko lang bitawan 'yun. i tried to relax. tas hiniwa yung puson... ahhh! yung taba nakita kooo! taba yon! taba yung nakita kong yon! for a moment, i remembered what my nanay told me, "wag kayong seselan-selan doon ah." parang diesel, painitin. kaya ko naman pala. nakikisabay pa ako sa tawanan ng team. cool-coolan. suddenly,
surgeon: "suction... iho, ikilos mo yung kamay mo!"
shock. hypo, tachy, tachy. teka, 'di naman ako na-brief na ako 'yung magsa-suction, kala ko taga-abot lang ako ng instruments bilang yung nurse-on-duty (nod) 'yung suma-suction kanina. thanks to the mask, walang nakakitang namutla ako dun. few minutes later, "baby out!emo time: (wind chimes clanging) seriously, i realized that i became a part of a new life. one of the greatest feelings i felt. :) tas biglang iihi yung bata, basag! (agad namang sinuction ng nod, so okey lang.) then while the surgeon's cleaning the endometrium (inner lining of the uterus), syempre may mga nag-adhere dun, bawat pag-abot niya sa akin ng clamp... may kasamang laman! i was shouting in my mind. "doooc, alam mo naman siguro na processed food ang karaniwang baon ng student nurses. and if you'd like to know, tocino po 'yung ulam ko for dinner! okay!?" tas may inabot sa akin na pieces of tissue, as in human tissue, e ako, consistent... nilalagay ko sa kidney basin 'yung bawat laman na naka-ipit sa clamp tas biglang nagsalita yung c.i ko, "hoy, bakit mo itatapon yan! ilagay mo sa vial." my bad. i forgot, my patient was for btl (bilateral tubal ligation), tali ba. and that last two little pieces of sh*t were part of  the patient's fallopian tube pala. :D (sorry, first-time sa operating room.) ngiti na lang, then i put it inside the vial. yeah, baby! i had 2 cases in 1! ;) and before closing the site, last thing that you should do... pray... for the final counting. siguraduhing walang naiwan na anumang foreign object sa loob ng katawan ng pasyente. and "thanks, God.", kumpleto siya!

and that's my ob-or debut. Pasensya na mahaba.
God bless us all. ;)
